Lye is sodium hydroxide, and is quite caustic.&nbsp;  Because it is caustic, you need to be careful handling lye. It heats up \u2013 don\u2019t touch it, it\u2019s really hot!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the mixture is clear, let it cool to about 52\u02daC, which is 125 \u02daF.&nbsp; Use your thermometer to keep checking the temperature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now pour the lye mixture into the oils and stir with your spoon (by hand!) for 5-7 minutes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After that you can use a blender to mix it further until it is a smooth creamy mixture.&nbsp; Try not to get any air into it, or you\u2019ll get air pockets in your soap.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix in your essential oils if you are using them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Optional step) \u2013 you can stir an extra bit of oil (1-2 Tablespoons) into the mixture here if you need a moisturizing shampoo bar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour your liquid into some soap molds.&nbsp; Alternatively, pour it into a big shallow  mold which you can cut up later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leave the soap for at least 24 hours before taking them out of the mold.&nbsp; If you\u2019ve used one big mold, cut it up into pieces now.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>There you are &#8211; homemade shampoo bars without a melt and pour base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Curing your shampoo bar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s it\u2019s best to let the shampoo bars cure for about a month.
